Weekly Walk ‘n Roll

Active transportation helps students’ minds and bodies, decreases car traffic, builds community, and improves the environment. Create a culture of active transportation at your school by adopting an ongoing Walk ‘n Roll program. Free resources and training are available for the 2024-25 school year for schools in Mt. Diablo, Martinez, and Walnut Creek School Districts. Choose one day every week, such as Walk ‘n Roll Wednesdays, when students are encouraged to get to school on foot, by bike, or in a carpool – rain or shine!

All students receive a Scan Tag with a unique barcode for their backpacks.

On designated “Scan Days,” using the Active4me app, volunteers greet and scan participating students’ Scan Tags when they arrive on bikes, scooters, by walking, or in a carpool. Active4me records students’ trips, miles traveled, and CO2 saved. The app is easy to use, and the dashboard allows schools to measure success and customize incentives.

Parents can choose to register their student’s Scan Tag barcode and opt in to receive free text notifications every time their child is checked in at school. Student registration and providing personal data is NOT REQUIRED for participation.

When students earn milestones, such as every 4th time they’re scanned for walking, rolling, or carpooling, they earn collectable “Trip Charms” that can be attached to their Scan Tag:

Record Success with Measurable Data: Schools will receive access to the Active4me Dashboard to track progress, see instant greenhouse gas savings, miles traveled, participation by classroom and grade level, and more!

Street Smarts Diablo will train your volunteers and provide your school with all the materials you need to succeed – at NO COST to your school.
